The older classic cars use SAE with Imperial fittings, whereas more cars are using DIN/ISO flare with metric fittings.Usually the SAE flare fits to the UNF threaded fittings and DIN fits to the metric fittings.

The predominant type DIN/ISO, but for some of the brass pipe connectors (including the brake bias valve), an SAE double (or inverted flare) is used.

Both SAE and DIN flares are workable on the same tube end forming machine by just replacing forming tools.

The SAE double flare features a 90 degree cone is inserted in the open end to make a recessed seat and a DIN flare, so called a DIN single flare.

DIN flare showing a flat ended brake pipe nut – no recess in the nut as the flare is flat on the bottom edge.

SAE double flare showing a recessed (90 degree cone shape) nut as the flare is conical on the bottom edge.

Above differences make those flares can’t formed by just one time,it should be a multi stroke ram tube end forming machine with 1 to 3 times of hits. The ram nominal force is 2 tons and pipe jaws clamping force is 1 ton,it makes the machine strong enough to ensures tube flares are well formed in every details.
